Frida Buch-Special (16 March 2006)
"A Tribute To Frida"

Today on 16 March, the publishing house released the first pictures from the book. Judging from the correction prints we were put at our disposal by the publishing house, one couldn't see which pictures would be in black/white or coloured. Anyway, the book had its final layout, and that was absolutely marvellous. It is a photo volume of top class quality, for most of the photos are full-page DIN A4, some even DIN A3. In some cases it presents a small series of photos at A4 or even A3 if suitable. Often, photo series across a whole page are a delicacy of its own. For enthusiasts of photo albums, this book is a true eye-catcher.

After the wonderful opening photos you reach the first double page (6/7) with an English-speaking (left) and German-speaking (right) introduction. From the very start you notice that the text has been written by truly passionate Frida fans, not some obscure authors. All is penned full-heartedly, and they never forget the necessary objectivity in detail, though.

On 3 double pages the timeline comprises - in catchwords - everything from her birth until today with the English-German text permanently on the right, whereas on the left a picture journey through the various periods can be found - reaching from child and fashion photos to stage shots and private material. As to Frida, it is very much of a visualized time-lapsed journey from a child to the mature woman of today.

The main part starts with her first shootings for EMI, early pictures with Benny as well as photos from Folkspark concerts and even backstage. Her time with ABBA is precisely divided according to each year, and you are offered a great deal of promo shootings and sessions. Pages with a whole photo series shaped like a film stripe are evidence of all the love and care that were devoted on the choice of those brilliant photos. Here you can see all motives, simultaneously taking on some documentalist character through this sort of layout, as with a press conference or the German pop show "Musikladen", for example. The contrast between Polaroid photos of more private nature (left) and a full-page photo of Frida wearing elegant stage outfit (right) is also very charming.

Pure private photos are to be found rather scarcely, but everything that is not stage-related finds a middle course someplace between fashion and promotion and thus clearly reflects periods of different style.

Apparently, a better presentation of Frida's life in pictures than that is not possible. If there is anything left to do, it is a biography written by Frida herself. Regarding the book's design, it is best described as a photo album; would it be part of a peculiar theme such as "The Lord of The Rings" for example, the pages would perhaps be framed even more imaginatively. The simple layout of a photo album, however, has been mastered here with simple elegance more than brilliantly and attractively. A real must for every collection.

Daily paper METRO (Dutch edition 4 April 2006)
(Translation and scan by Michel Evers - Bussum, The Netherlands)

Since last saturday the picturebook "A tribute to Frida" is available. A big piece of work about the singer from ABBA written by Jean-Marie Potiez and Philippe Elan. Metro did "Ring Ring" and called Philippe:

Q: Ah, I think i`m speaking with the biggest Frida-fan in the world?
Philippe: Ha ha, not the biggest. If you look at some internet forums there are "bigger" fans. But I’m an absolute fan of ABBA and Frida. She’s cult!

Q: Why Frida and not the other one: Agnetha?
Philippe: That`s because of "Fernando" which was sung by Frida. Since then I’m a fan. Agnetha was "pretty and sweet", but Frida is the "Grande Dame". But hey, it`s so subjective.

Q: I read that Frida is a fan of you?
Philippe: Yes! I recorded a song from ABBA in French. When she heard it she wrote me a beautiful letter. Since then she`s a fan of my music.

Q: And now the book: "A tribute"?
Philippe: Frida just turned 60. Together with Jean-Marie we collected Frida`s most beautiful pictures from the 60`s until now. The book is about Frida`s career, not her personal life.

Q: Frida a singer..... you a chansonnier; isn`t it about time for a duet?
Philippe: Who knows? It would be fantastic. The chances aren`t that big but you never know. And "Fernando" would be the perfect song, yes......

Q: OK.... a thesis; not Madonna but Frida is the Queen of Pop. True or not?
Philippe: Undoubtedly! Frida is such a charismatic singer. Her repertoire is also wide: popsongs, chansons but also soul music.

Beneath the interview you can find a link to the publisher and the site of the book.

A Hommage to Frida

"A Smile from her feels so good" - Now a private look in the ABBA singers life!

Anni-Frid Synni Lyngstad - almost nobody is calling her in her full name. Better known as the beautiful singer FRIDA (60) from Abba, which won the Eurovision Song Contest with "Waterloo" in 1974 together with Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Fältskog.

In 1982 the band split up - the couples short time before.
Frida went on with a very successful solo career, married again to a German prince, lost her daugther Lise-Lotte in 1998 in a car crash and one year later, she also lost her husband Prince Ruzzo Reuss.

For Frida, it was a very very hard time, but she never gave up and found back to light in life again. Today she is very involved with charity and social projects - and she does that with her whole heart!

"A smile from her feels so good" - these are the deep meaning words from the book authors Philippe Elan and Jean-Marie Potiez. For many years, they have followed Frida, collected facts about her, made pictures of her - and now they have released a wonderful picture book of this fantastic and beautiful woman.

Text under the ABBA picture:

ABBA: Björn, Frida, Agnetha and Benny made millions with their songs.

Text under the picture with Frida & Benny:
Frida with her second husband Benny. They split up in 1981.

Text next to "FRIDA - The Book":
In this fantastic and wonderful picture book "A Tribute To Frida", by Jean-Marie Potiez and Philippe Elan (Schwarzkopf & Schwarzkopf Verlag, EURO 29,90) you will find around 200 pictures in colour and black/white about this wonderful ABBA singer from the early years until now - lots of them were never published before!
A must for every fan - and for those who want to become a fan!
